JOLIET —
State Senator Rachel Ventura is encouraging residents to attend a public hearing hosted by the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) regarding Nicor Gas’ proposed $308.6 million rate increase. The hearing will take place on Monday, June 9, from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park Indoor Theatre, 201 W. Jefferson St., Joliet.

“This proposed rate increase would impact thousands of families across our region,” said Ventura (D-Joliet). “It’s important that residents have a chance to make their voices heard before any decision is made.”

Nicor filed its request with the ICC in January 2025. The ICC reviews rate hike proposals through a formal 11-month process to determine whether the utility’s requested funds are necessary and fair for consumers.

The hearing will open with remarks from the administrative law judge presiding over the case, followed by a brief presentation from Nicor. Residents will then have the opportunity to offer verbal and written comments. ICC staff will also be on hand to answer questions from the public. Although ICC commissioners will not attend the hearing, they will review all public input and evidence before making a final decision.

Residents may also submit comments online through the ICC website or call the ICC Consumer Services Division at 1-800-524-0795 during regular business hours.

“Public input is crucial in holding utilities accountable,” said Ventura. “If you’re concerned about how this could affect your monthly bills, now is the time to speak up.”
