JOLIET – State Senator Rachel Ventura’s district office is officially a battery collection site in conjunction with The Battery Network. Under Illinois law, household and medium-format batteries are prohibited from being tossed in the garbage and should be recycled properly.
“This partnership with The Battery Network provides a convenient, safe and approved way to dispose of household batteries that can no longer be used,” and said Ventura (D-Joliet). “Recycling batteries is an easy way to help protect our community and homes.”
Batteries can be dropped off at the district office in Joliet located at 221 Springfield Ave., Unit 3, during regular business hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The district office can accept a number of batteries including rechargeable batteries, primary (single-use) batteries, cellphones, medium format batteries as well as batteries that are damaged or defective. These types of batteries are often found in household devices such as remotes toys, power tools and flashlights, as well as larger batteries found in lawn mowers and e-bikes.
"We're grateful to Senator Ventura for helping make battery recycling more convenient for the Joliet community," said Todd Ellis, vice president of services and solutions for The Battery Network. "By opening her district office as a collection site, she's demonstrating how local leadership can make it easier for residents to safely recycle their used batteries. Partnerships like this are essential to building a stronger, more accessible recycling network across Illinois."
"Every new collection site makes a difference for the communities we serve," said Marta Keane, regional state stewardship manager for The Battery Network. "We're excited to partner with Senator Ventura to provide Will County residents with another convenient, trusted location to recycle their used batteries safely. Expanding local access is one of the best ways to help more people participate in battery recycling."
The Battery Network is a state-approved stewardship program that allows consumers to recycle all household batteries through a convenient network of drop-off locations. You can learn more about the Battery Network, Illinois law, and other location sites here.
